With 5.5 million square feet of office, housing, retail, and hotels currently under construction, downtown Phoenix is booming in an urban renewal unseen in the area since the 1960s, and thousands of new residents are expected to move in the next couple of years. Businesses are flocking in, eager to serve these potential customers.
Among them is no other than popular local donut chain Bosa Donuts, which is planning to open not one, not two, but three locations in the near future. The first one is scheduled to open today, Friday, May 31st, at 310 S. Fourth Street, inside The Summit at Copper Square. According to Jackson Chao, the company’s marketing manager and owner of the Bosa Donuts trademark, this will be the 31st location in Arizona for the chain.
The next location, which is scheduled to open next week on June 4th, will be situated in the Arizona Center which is located on the northeast corner of Van Buren and Third streets. The third Bosa Donuts location in downtown Phoenix already has an address: 101 N. Central Ave., inside the office tower on the southeast corner of First Avenue and Monroe Street, but no announced opening date yet.
These three locations could only be the beginning of the adventure for Bosa Donuts in downtown Phoenix. Chao is already looking forward toward the future is the planned sites are performing well: “We planned at least five locations, but if these do well, we’ll do at least five to ten locations,” he said in an interview with the Arizona Central.
Bosa Donuts is a fast-growing local chain which is best known for its donuts but also serves light fare items, such as breakfast and lunch sandwiches, and a wide variety of drinks including coffee, espresso drinks, fruit smoothies, Thai tea, boba drinks, and even hot cocoa for the kids. Some locations are open 24 hours a day, seven days per week, and many include a drive-thru to make it as convenient as possible for donuts aficionados to get their fix. The apple fritter donut, in particular, is a popular option. It was included in the list of the best donuts shop in Phoenix by dining critic Dominic Armato from the Republic, who describes it as such: “the apple fritter boasts a heavy payload of fresh apple and a deep, caramelized crust, while the apple crumb boasts a chunky sweet filling that’s still fresh tasting.” Count us in! The delicious offering is affordably priced, with basic donuts starting at $0.99 per piece and the fancier options at $1.39 apiece.
Bosa Donuts is coming in to fill a desperately needed gap in the market. Until the opening of their first location, the only donut shop available in the area was Dunkin’ Donuts, located on the northwest corner of Central Avenue and Adams Street. For Chao, this lack is an incredible opportunity: “Downtown is where everybody works,” he said to the Phoenix Business Journal last summer. “There’s a lot of potential customers who want doughnuts – good quality doughnuts.”
We wish him the best of luck on opening day!
